I am a retired vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of North Carolina. I traveled to different high schools in our area. The young people I had the privilege to work with had some kind of disability to qualify for our program, including significant anxiety or depression. My job was to get those wonderful kids prepared to be able to get a job one day. I provided interviewing skills, job placement, vocational evaluations, sponsorship of college expenses, medical expenses and much more. It was the most rewarding job I've ever had. Every state has a Vocational Rehabilitation office and most people have never heard of it. I hope that changes one day.
It is my goal to help you by giving you different ideas on how to take care of your mental health on a regular basis. With brain dysfunction noone can tell that you are suffering. Therefore, sometimes it is a very lonely experience. Depression is the number one cause of disability in the U.S. today. Not feeling alone is so vitally important. I hope you may benefit from this site and please feel free to e-mail me at any time with comments, questions, or ideas.
Once I get my newsletter set up, I will be giving you useful information about what I have learned both as a counselor and as a patient, if you will. Also, I will give you recommendations for books, movies, etc. dealing with mental health issues. We all deserve a life that we are contented with, as happiness can be fleeting. Peace doesn't have to be.
